A Question of Balance - by Alicia Wills of Bellingham

Alicia submitted the following collage to the collaborative sculpture titled "Women's Work" that Sarai Stevens built in honor of her women's network and all the powerful women living as a force for change within and around Skagit Valley:

I am a single woman in my 60’s who loves creating art with a practical use.  I have renovated, with love and hard work, an old box of a house on the edge of town into a beautiful garden property that contains separate homes for two other elder-women, as well as my own home and home office.  It is also habitat for chickens and ducks, cats and dogs, many varieties of wild birds and other small urban wild critters.  The gardens feed our bodies and the beauty of the gardens feeds our souls.
I also hold collage workshops here, for women and whatever men might brave the predominantly she-space.  Collage is my indoor art-form and I love sharing it with others.  I hold the space, provide materials and help folks set aside time to create and get in touch with their inner promptings through the collage process.  I’ve included a detail from one of my more recent collages, “A Question of Balance.”
